GOHU, artistic heteronym of advertising executive Hugo Veiga, is Hugo in reverse. Born in Porto, he lived in Lisbon for seven years, but moved to São Paulo, Brazil, 16 years ago.
As a publicist, he has done communication projects for international artists like YoYo Ma, Usher, Lady Gaga and Elton John; and Brazilians like Emicida, Kevin o Chris, Criolo and Milton Nascimento, Ivete Sangalo, Baco Exu do Blues – with whom he won the Entertainment Lions Grand Prix for Music at Cannes 2019; and Baiana System and Tropkillaz, whose project was nominated for the 2020 Latin Grammy Awards. After being considered advertising creative of the year worldwide at Cannes 2013 and best Creative Director in Brazil in 2019, Hugo decided to fulfill his teenage dream and bring to the light of day some of the songs that again and again start playing in his head.
His debut album – Terra da Faina – was released in November 2020 and features songs such as Vai Ficar Fixe, considered by MTV as a quarantine anthem, Sopra o Vento feat com S. Pedro, Olha eu aqui feat com o apresentador Pedro Fernandes, Nesga de Sol feat Tainá, and Maresia. His songs have been remixed by international DJ’s like Fatnotronic and Scorsi.
With musical production by Brazilian Emerson Martins from Bamba Music, GOHU is an unpretentious project, of an almost teenage innocence with satirical and sarcastic lyrics.
He starts 2022 with a new single Contigo como Lontra accompanied by an unreleased music video, which precedes his next album, to be released in May.
